Start a route for Punta de Mita: the legacy of Sustainable Tourism Development, 2018.
The Secretary of Tourism of Mexico, Enrique de la Madrid, receives the ADEPM in his office.
When the project began to care for and maintain Punta de Mita and its neighboring towns as the tourist diamond that it is today; when the great potential of the place needs to be managed to maintain it for a long time, is when the ADEPM takes actions to make this happen.
Although the authorities in Mexico have busy schedules, the ADEPM insisted and persevered to get Secretary De la Madrid to open a space and receive ADEPM in his office last February 12, in order to exchange information on the progress made that have been achieved in areas of common interest for the benefit of Punta de Mita and Riviera Nayarit.
The main topics that were touched in this meeting were:
It is important to remember that this type of plans are managed at the municipal level and include matters related to land use, urban growth, use of renewable energies, proper waste management, and everything related to the urban image of the area. The ADEPM shared with Secretary De la Madrid the result of the town hall’s session that took place on January 19, where the municipality of Bahía de Banderas approved to carry out this Partial Plan.
On the other hand there is the so-called Sustainable Area Decree; this program is managed at the federal level involves the natural preservation of the area based on the 17 sustainable development objectives defined by the UN. It is carried out by the Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR), to which Secretary De la Madrid also shared that work is already underway in this initiative together with the Secretary of Tourism of Nayarit headed by Eulalio Coronado; what is sought is that Punta de Mita be decreed as a Sustainable Zone, the First Sustainable Destination of Mexico.
According to the Secretary of the Navy, Almirante Vidal Francisco Soberón Sanz, having a Naval Station in the Punta de Mita area is a national security strategy. The land selected for this building, has the optimum characteristics and necessary to develop the activities of the sailors. The land is located in Litibu and offers protection to 2 of the 3 municipalities of Riviera Nayarit, that is to say to Bahia de Banderas and Compostela since the third municipality that is the one of San Blas already counts on its own Naval Zone, Zone #6. This is derived from the unfortunate events that have been occurring in other tourist destinations in Mexico.
For this reason, Secretary De la Madrid reaffirmed his interest and support so that Punta de Mita and the Riviera Nayarit receive the protection and protection of the Secretariat of the Navy. For this reason also, it will work on the donation of the land selected for this purpose. He also asked Gerardo Corona to work on making a proposal that would facilitate obtaining financial resources from both the public and private sectors to build the Punta de Mita Naval Station.
As an attention to the Secretary of Tourism, ADEPM also took the opportunity to present to Secretary De la Madrid the new investments in the area. To this meeting ADEPM invited the directors of Walton St. Capital and Contact Development Capital who announced the new “Hilton Conrad in Litibu“. This is an investment of 3200 Billion pesos. The design and image of the new development is ready and they are prepared to start construction and remodeling for the 322 rooms that this new hotel will have.
Before this gratifying news, Secretary De la Madrid gladly agreed to come in March – April to the destination and participate by placing the first stone, which will start this new investment.
Thus this is how this meeting ended. After all, it is the responsibility of each one of us to do our part so that Punta de Mita and Riviera Nayarit maintain their beauty and their security, but above all, to make Punta de Mita the First Sustainable Destination of Mexico.
