What started as a dream for Punta de Mita today is a reality
“Punta de Mita Sustainable Destination of Mexico”
In August 2015, what began then seemed to be only a dream for the destiny of Punta de Mita; businessmen, hoteliers, developers and residents came together forming the ADEPM with the same objective: to seek to establish an identity for the Riviera Nayarit; and with this, guarantee the services and well-being of the region, imagining converting Punta de Mita into a sustainable destination.
Today it is a reality after having implemented different actions, having carried out several approaches with the different levels of Government in the country; it was achieved placing Punta de Mita as the best option to be the first sustainable destination of the country under presidential decree.
With the participation of ADEPM, the presence of the Undersecretary of Federal Tourism, Maria Teresa Solis Trejo, of the Secretary of Tourism of Nayarit, Eulalio Coronado, the director of the Institute of Planning of Bahía de Banderas, Beatriz Martinez, the director of Urban Planning and Tourist of the Federal SECTUR, Usiel Garcia, as well as representatives of Public Works and State Planning, and with the important support of the Municipal Government of Bahia de Banderas. On June 23rd, a meeting was held to establish and start the worktable that will monitor the process of integrating the technical file with all aspects duly attached to the regulations of the Ministry of Tourism and of the SEMARNAT itself on Environmental issues
Currently Punta de Mita and Tulum, in Cancun, are the Mexican destinations that are working to incorporate the corresponding regulations to obtain this declaration. The destination that first completes the technical file, which must include a diagnosis of the tourist activity, social and environmental aspects of the polygon to be regulated, will be the option that in the first instance will be analyzed by an Evaluation Committee composed of 5 Secretaries of State: SEMARNAT, SEDATU, SCT, SEGOB and SECTURThe latter will be the one to decide whether the application proceeds or not, to finally present it to the consideration of the President. It is then when it is declared as the First Sustainable Destination of the country.
The purpose of having Punta de Mita as a sustainable destination of the Country is to ensure the preservation of the environment, improve the infrastructure, roads and transportation of the area, as well as contribute to a healthy social and economic development of the region¸ as well as a structured territorial order with the purpose of taking care of the planet and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants, allowing to preserve the most unusual and extraordinary corners of the Riviera Nayarit impacting positively on the lives of its people.
