Let’s go for a clean Punta Mita
Last September 12th, at the facilities of the Hotel St. Regis, Punta de Mita, the Asociación de Empresarios de Punta de Mita, ADEPM, and the Riviera Nayarit Association, convened a working meeting attended by ADEPM Members, Nayarit congresswoman Julieta Mejia, Ana Cecilia Llanos Guzman, Nayarit Secretary of Tourism, Municipal President of Bahía de Banderas, Jaime Alonso Cuevas Tello, Christian Valiente, Secretary General of the Government of Bahía de Banderas, councilmen of the Municipality; the Association of Hotels and Motels of Riviera Nayarit, the Riviera Nayarit Association of Restaurateurs, as well as the Punta de Mita Foundation and Amigos de la Cruz.
The objective of the meeting was to undertake sustainable actions that contribute to the presidential declaration that Punta de Mita is seeking, and to share information of great importance regarding urban solid waste, which are clearly visible on the new road of the Cruz de Huanacaxtle-Punta de Mita-Higuera Blanca. The purpose is to avoid spreading trash, pollution and poor image of our tourist destination, since this road is the first impression our visitors receive from the area.
A project was also presented that will allow the creation of a permanent cleanliness campaign, establishing bases to promote a culture of recycling and sustainability in the area; unifying efforts that have a positive impact on the conservation of green areas and public spaces.
It was commented that the image of Punta de Mita starts from Highway 200, where the signage is currently in bad shape; there are potholes, badly planned stops, highway-vendors, and trash and garbage are seen throughout the entire road.
Several proposals emerged, but all participants agreed on one, which represents the most important thing; the imperative need to educate humanity on the importance to take actions that take care of the planet.
It was also proposed to start garbage collection campaigns every end-of-the month, with the participation of all employees and residents of the area. Involve the authorities and citizens to work jointly and implement the regulations established; create law initiatives such as the PROHIBITION ON THE USE OF PLASTICS and Fishing in certain points of the Bay; ELIMINATE clandestine dumps and ESTABLISH by law, the guidelines for separation of garbage, and fines and sanctions for whoever does not implement the correct garbage disposal regulations.
It was agreed that a work team would be installed who will see point-to-point everything related to this sustainability proposal for the road from La Cruz de Huanacaxtle-Punta de Mita to Higuera Blanca. It will be integrated by a representative of all sectors who will closely follow this process point to point to becoming a reality and a new image for Punta de Mita. The project will be developed in three stages: AWARENESS, BENEFIT AND FINES & PENALTIES.
Because together we’re going for a clean Punta de Mita!
