Permanent operation in Bahia de Banderas in the area of sanitation and drinking water

The installation and supervision of grease traps discharged in the drainage is formalized.

The Asociacion de Empresarios de Punta de Mita and Riviera Nayarit (ADEPM) and the Restaurant Association of Riviera Nayarit, made a formal request to Municipal President Dr. Jaime Cuevas to improve and maintain the health infrastructure.

With this petition it is intended that jointly and in accordance with the laws and regulations for discharges of wastewater discharged into the sewer system of Bahía de Banderas; grease traps are installed in restaurants, hotels and motels, condominiums, apartments, hospitals, laundries, self-service stores and also in all those places where food is prepared in industrial kitchens.

A grease trap is a device specially made of stainless steel, which separates solid waste and fats that go down the drain, in order to protect the sanitary facilities and avoid contamination risks.

After a series of meetings between ADEPM, the Municipality of Bahía de Banderas, directors of OROMAPAS (Potable Water Operator Organization in Bahía de Banderas) and the Riviera Nayarit Restaurant Association, an agreement was signed to establish and achieve the following:

To raise awareness in the users and residents of the need to prevent grease and solid waste from clogging sanitary and drainage facilities; for this purpose OROMAPAS will prepare informative brochures inviting everyone to install these grease traps. This communication will be sent through the payment receipts.

A period of 60 days will be given for the installation of the traps, at the same time it will give users the necessary facilities that they may require according to each case. At the end of this period, OROMAPAS will carry out an inspection and if they are not installed, the corresponding sanctions will be applied according to the legal regulations in the matter.

Drinking water without proper treatment represents a danger of parasitic infection, hepatitis and several gastrointestinal diseases, in addition to being a potential environmental impact, reason for which we must all take responsible actions in its use and even in its discharge.
