The Government of the Republic through CONAFOR supports the owners and holders of forests, jungles, mangroves, wetlands and arid zones, to care for, improve and take advantage of the forest resources present in these ecosystems.

The National Forestry Commission, created by presidential decree on April 4, 2001, is a Decentralized Public Organization whose objective is to develop, favor and promote productive activities, conservation and restoration in forestry, as well as participate in the formulation of plans, programs, and in the application of sustainable forestry development policy.

The projects in which CONAFOR participates are supported in the areas determined by the operating rules. For this year 2018 the support of this public body is directed towards:

Support for Sustainable Development, PRONAFOR – The National Development Plan 2013-2018 proposes as Fourth National Goal “A Prosperous Mexico” that promotes the sustained growth of productivity in a climate of economic stability and through the generation of equal opportunities. More info HERE

Environmental Compensation – Considers actions of soil restoration, reforestation, and maintenance that are designed with technical and environmental criteria More info HERE

Specific mechanisms for prevention, control and combat of environmental contingencies caused by pests and forest fires and support for sustainable forestry development – CONAFOR will grant economic resources for the execution of the treatments or phytosanitary measures established in the sanitation notification with the purpose of combating and controlling outbreaks of forest pests through phytosanitary treatments. Existen las brigadas de Sanidad Forestal que tienen como objetivo monitorear, detectar, diagnosticar, combatir y controlar plagas y enfermedades forestales.

Criteria for obtaining germplasm from the support program for sustainable forestry development – Its objective is to obtain improved genetic material, considering the priority forest species and of suitable provenances, to supply in terms of quality and quantity the areas to be restored and commercial plantations, considering its adaptation to the effects of climate change.
